New to traditional Indian fashion but I want to fit in and be tasteful
What are good fabrics (cotton, silk); types ( such as Kota dari); and decorations (embroidered or not, how much, etc.) for both sarees and salwar kameez type outfits, if you want to look tasteful and educated, but not overdressed, for casual day wear and for special occassions? I am going to order some and make some, and I want to look like I know what I'm doing, not like a tourist playing dress-up. I am planning to live in India for much of every year. I asked people I know in India, but most are men and didn't really understand my question. I hope someone out there does. Thanks.
i know for special occasions the sari is made of silk , but i would think that for everyday use cotton is a good idea especially since it gets hot in india
